I just finished an interesting discussion with my co-workers regarding the right to defend yourself. There was a case recently decided in Texas where a man shot and killed 2 burglars. It seems that public opinion on how this was handled by this neighbor is mixed. In the 911 tape he mentions on how he really didn’t know these neighbors very well, yet he was still willing to defend them from these past convicted criminals. I’m curious to hear what you, the reader thinks of this situation.
I’ve included the full 911 call (no news reporting) for context and perspective.

This is a tricky one because legally he was within his rights since he shot the guys on his yard however he didn’t have to go outside and he wasn’t the victim in this situation. I also agree with the dispatcher, there is no property worth shooting somebody over, if your life or your loved ones is in danger go ahead but over a computer or a tv is not worth it at all. Plus the cops were almost there and they would have taken care of the situation, most likely without shooting anyone. This guy was just pissed off and clearly just wanted to shoot the guys. It sucks to say it but that’s texas for you. Don’t get me wrong, I believe everyone has the right to defend themselves however he wasn’t the victim in this situation, to take the actions he did, at least not until he went outside with his shotgun while the guys were on his yard, he basically forced himself into legally being the victim. At the end he was cleared but who is going to put in jail a white american citizen for shooting 2 illegal immigrants thieves?. Like I said it’s a tough one.
